St. Vitus Cathedral
St. Vitus´ Cathedral is the greatest and most significant of all temple buildings in Prague. Besides the divine services proceeded also coronations of Czech kings here. In 925 prince Wenceslas the I. based roman rotunda here, which was after 1060 rebuilt in three-aisled basilica with two towers.
In 1344 Charles the IV. started building of gothic cathedral. The first builders, Matyas from Arras and later Petr Parler, built Saint Wenceslas´ Chapel, Golden Gate and bottom part of main tower.
For centuries the cathedral remained uncompleted, although some monarchs endeavoured to continue with building. Not until second half of 19. century was initiated the reconstruction of the origin part and finishing of a building in neogothic style. In 1929 was the cathedral highly dedicated.
